Joining the LEGACY Tour

About the LEGACY Tour

Before you join (or attempt to join) the LEGACY Tour, there are a few things you should know about me and about the LEGACY Tour. PLEASE read over this prior to filling out any information.

First and foremost, my name is Rob Belote. I've been involved in online wrestling, or "e-feds" since, oh, sometime in early 1996 or thereabouts. Throughout my time with this hobby, I have seen at least a hundred people come and go, and some return again. At the beginning, I found online wrestling interesting, but I had to be coaxed into keeping up with it every week by the guy I knew who ran the first e-fed I was ever in. After that, I ran one, and it started with my friends just goofing around. Then other people started joining, my friends lost interest, and strangely enough, I gained a lot more interest in it. My online wrestling organization started off using "real wrestlers", meaning that someone would handle Bret Hart, someone would handle The Rock, etc, and they would do roleplays for that character. After a while of doing that, we switched over to "original" characters, whereby people would create his / her own character to use - everything from height and weight to nationality and background story. Some people went into much more detail on this than others. At that point, I got really into this "hobby" and it almost became my life. If there would have been a way to make money with this, I would've been right there. In fact, on various occassions I have TRIED to make money off of this, but to date, I can't figure out a profitable way.

Anyway, after some things happened to me away from the computer, I had to close down my online wrestling organization, but a couple months later, I started being involved again. Maybe I'm addicted, who knows. I really just enjoy being on the computer and working on my creative writing, having the opportunity to read the creative writing of others, and getting the chance to talk to people from all over the world.

Over the past decade or so, I have been a part of numerous organizations, and on occassion, several organizations at a time. I could attempt to name them all (AWA, AODWF, CEWF, COIWA, COWO, NAFWA, NYSWF, OPW, SHOOT Project, SWA, TTW...), but even as I start to name them, I know there are some that I remember being in but don't remember the names of. I've handled various characters along the way, but my main character for years was Robert Belote - both as a wrestler and as an in-character federation owner. His gimmick was that he was a businessman (consulting of some sort, never specified really what type of consulting) who had a ton of money and enjoyed wrestling. His theme music is and will always bee "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, and his main finisher was the "Hostile Takeover" - a double-underhook powerbomb into a pin (or boston crab submission). As an in-character federation owner, Rob Belote was a power-hungry, power-abusing asshole who definitely played favorites and who was highly competitive with other organizations. At one point when a federation I had been in was getting ready to close, I talked with the out of character "owner" and negotiated a "buy out" of their organization, which, in-character, we played out as a hostile takeover. Their roster merged with mine at the time, and that's really the point in time where two of the groups I was involved in really met for the first time and became what is now called "the circle". Over time the circle has grown, partially due to efforts on my part, partially due to efforts on the parts of others.

Now that you know a bit about me and my history in this "business", it's time to find out more about LEGACY

What Is LEGACY Tour / What Is It Not

First and foremost, the thing you need to understand is that the LEGACY Tour is an angled online wrestling organization. It's not a place where people spend hours and hours and hours every week trying to out "roleplay" / "promo" their opponent for a given week prior to a deadline prior to a show. If that's what you're looking for, I currently have a couple of links I could give you for places that are great for that. I was part of organizations like that for about 9 years, and with the help of an organization called "True Talent Wrestling", I found something that I enjoy more than I enjoyed any "competition" e-fed I was ever a part of.

Where We Came From (reality)

Once upon a time there was an organization called Wolfpack Pro Wrestling (WPW). It was run by a guy named John Rockwell, a well-known "name" in the "circle" in which I competed. For reasons unknown to me, he decided that he was going to close WPW, and then he negotiated with a guy named Ed Hansen, deciding to let Ed run it under a new name. At that point, True Talent Wrestling (TTW) was born. A federation called "SHOOT Project" had just closed and there were a number of people looking for a place to go, and having worked with Ed back in SHOOT Project and knowing how creative he was, I went with my sense of loyalty and joined TTW. It was slightly different than other organizations I had been a part of due to its results not being based on roleplay competitions. To this day, if you ask me to explain how winners and losers were chosen in TTW, it would be hard to keep my response under five pages, but how things were done there isn't important. How things are done in LEGACY is important. I'll get to that later.

After two years of highly entertaining shows, Ed decided that he could no longer run True Talent Wrestling, and so he decided it should close. After a bit of negotiating, Ed agreed to let me open up my own organization and have it affiliated to some degree with True Talent Wrestling, giving the roster an opportunity to continue / finish their existing storylines and stay together if they chose to do so. At that point LEGACY was born, and while some of the roster decided to go elsewhere during the period of uncertainty or because they wanted to explore other environments, the core of the roster decided to give me the chance. The rest of the explanation... that's more of an in-character thing.

Contracts

Just like any professional wrestling organization, I've decided that there is a need to have the notion of a "contract" for the LEGACY Tour. When you fill out your application information below, you need to tell me the contract period you're interested in starting with, based on the number of pay per view cycles you wish to be included in. Now when I've brought up this notion with various individuals, they've had a lot of questions and a number of concerns, so allow me to address that now, and I suggest you read over these points prior to deciding on your contract length.

  • What it Does Mean
    - One of the most fun parts of running an online wrestling organization is planning out the angles. I can't just plan out every single step of the way, it involves input from the handlers, and it needs various options on how the angle might come to fruition and close out. One of the most annoying parts of running an online wrestling organization is to have someone get upset about how an angle is running mid-stream and then just leave the organization, which leaves the angle hanging, and thus there's no real closure to things. One thing I HATE is when someone gets a championship belt and then never shows up again, as if to say "becoming champion was my only goal, I'm not interested in BEING a champion". How many kids do you know who beg their parents to go to Disneyland, and as soon as they walk in the gates, they turn to their mom or dad and say "I want to go home now"? Having contracts involved in this organization helps to avoid those situations. It helps to protect the storylines from people quitting them halfway through. What your contract length says to me is that you plan on keeping your character in my organization until your contract is over, and if you decide to quit early, you realize that your character can / will be used to finish out whatever angle is in the works. If you're unhappy with how your character is being used, then that's a situation that we need to discuss, and in most cases I'll bend over backwards to help rectify that situation. What you should realize is that if you have a championship belt and your contract is about to come to an end, chances are you're about to lose that belt unless we talk about a contract extension.

  • What it Does NOT Mean
    - Having a "contract" with the LEGACY Tour doesn't involve any real money (unless of course I find a way to make money from running this organization, and in that case, somehow we'll negotiate something into your "contract" about ways that the money can "trickle down" to you).
    - Having a "contract" with LEGACY Tour does not mean you have to be exclusive to the LEGACY Tour like it does with WWE, for example. In fact, our second World Champion was in another organization through his reign. If you do hold a championship in LEGACY and you try to defend it against someone in another organization, we will either not recognize that it happened at all or action will be taken. It hasn't happened yet, I hope it doesn't ever happen, but when it does, we'll take care of things on a case by case basis. LEGACY Championships are meant to be defended in LEGACY and LEGACY alone, unless otherwise planned for one of the LEGACY Championships to be defended elsewhere.

    Information You Provide

email me the following information to seltor3@hotmail.com and be sure to make the subject "Joining LEGACY : " and then your character name. Otherwise there's a good chance I won't notice it when sorting through my junk-mail.

    Handler Information
Handler Name (optional) Who you are / what you would like me to call you. If you don't give me information on this, I will call you by your character name, though there's a good chance I'm going to refer to you by your character name anyway.
Email Address What Email Address would you prefer I use to contact you?
Other Contact Information: Other than email, how do I get in touch with you?
    Handler Location (optional) {note: i don't want to know your address, I'm just wondering where you're from / where you're living so I get to know a little more about you. You're free to say "England" or "Tillamook, Oregon" or "Northern Virginia" or "Philadelphia Metropolitan Area" or "NOYDB" if you want}
    Character Information
    Character Name:
    Height:
    Weight:
    Hometown:
Theme Song Be sure to check the roster page to make sure you don't sign up for a theme song that someone else has. In some other cases, I might veto a theme song, but if I do that, I'll give you a reason why.
Finisher Check the roster page to see what other people's finishers are, and you don't HAVE to pick a finisher that's different than someone else's, but try not to just copy someone else. In some cases I might contact you regarding your finisher for various reasons. Let me know what finisher you'd like to use, and we'll go from there.

Also, your finisher doesn't NEED a name (e.g. Gryffin Anselm uses a spear / spinebuster combo as his finisher, it doesn't have a "name" like "The Rock Bottom" Urinage Slam does)
Signature Moves These are moves which your character does with a certain type of flair, or that they should use in most every match they're in. It won't lead directly to a pinfall (in most cases), so it shouldn't be a huge move that someone else has as a finisher.

List as many signature moves as your character has, but in some cases I won't include all of them on the roster, and in those cases I will try to discuss it with you.
    Basic Moveset /
    Fighting Style
Our match writers need to know how to make your character act during matches and they need to know what basic moves you want your wrestler to do in the ring.

Big moves such as powerbombs or anything else which would be considered a signature move or a finisher shouldn't be listed in here.
    Description

Tell me a bit about what your character is like. This is where you would tell me about the nationality / race of your character, and a bit about their personality and wrestling style. Don't go into your character's background for this category, that's not what this is for.

I like it when people relate their character to existing people (e.g. Gryffin Anselm has the personality and look of Triple H, some of the moveset of Triple H, and the intensity and some of the moves of Goldberg)

Background (optional) This is where you tell me all about how your character was abused as a kid, grew up poor, grew up rich and priveledged, left home after high school, went to an Ivy League College, grew up on the mean streets of Greenwich Connecticut, grew up on the mean streets of Hong Kong, lived in a mental institution for 15 of his / her first 21 years of life, escaped from jail, got fired from the police force, grew up in a trailor park, or whatever your background story is. This is the place for that.
    Initial Contract Length

This is where you tell me how many Pay Per View cycles you're interested in signing a LEGACY Tour Contract for. The typical PPV cycle lasts about 3 or 4 months.

Keep in mind that if you sign up for a contract to last only one pay per view cycle, you probably won't be "put over" at the pay per view if you are going up against the character of another handler, because "putting over" a character who isn't going to be around any longer isn't good for business. I'm not in the business of jobbing anyone or making them look bad, so it's not like that.

If we have talked about it before hand and you're only going to be a part of the LEGACY Tour on a show-by-show / "per appearance" basis, then just put that in there and I'll get in touch with you to make sure we've agreed upon how many / which dates you will be appearing.
